Full Gut vs. Finishes Only

Finishes only means the fixtures stay where they are. New vanity tops, paint, mirrors, lighting, flooring, and a reglazed or replaced shower door. The room reads new and nothing behind the wall moves, so the job stays short and predictable.

A full gut is the right call when the layout fights you: a shower you cannot turn around in, a toilet in the doorway, or a tub eating the best wall. Once plumbing moves, everything downstream moves too. Decide this first, because it sets the schedule, the trades, and every other choice on the project.

Double Vanity and Layout Planning

Give a double vanity 72 inches of wall if you can. Set the bowls toward the ends so there is drop space in the middle, and put drawers in the center bank rather than a dead cabinet. Standard height is 32 inches; comfort height at 36 suits most adults better.

Layout follows clearances, not the showroom photo. Toilets need 15 inches from centerline to any wall or vanity and 21 inches of clear space in front. Doors should not swing into the vanity. We lay the whole room out in tape on the floor before we order a thing.

Freestanding Tub and Shower Combinations

Most master baths we touch in Claremore were built in the 1990s and 2000s with a corner garden tub the owners have used twice. It takes the biggest window wall and steals the space the shower needs. Pulling it is the single highest-impact change in the room.

Two directions work. Replace it with a compact freestanding soaker on a floor-mount filler and give the reclaimed space to a larger shower, or delete the tub entirely for a wet-room style shower with a bench. Shower build detail lives on our walk-in shower installation page, and removing an alcove tub is covered under tub to shower conversion.

Heated Floors and Lighting

Electric radiant mats go under tile on a dedicated thermostat circuit and cover the open floor, not the area under the vanity or tub. Install it while the floor is out; it is cheap then and expensive later.

Light the room in layers. Vanity sconces at eye level on both sides of a mirror beat a single overhead bar because they light the face instead of casting shadows. Add a wet-rated can in the shower, a general ceiling fixture, and put every circuit on its own dimmer.

Sequencing a Master Bath Around the Rest of the House

Order the long-lead items first: tile, vanity, glass, and any specialty fixture. Demolition should not start until the tile is in our shop, because a bathroom sitting open waiting on a shipment is the most common source of delay.

We seal the master with a zip wall and run negative air so dust stays out of the rest of the house, and we protect the hallway floor from the entry door forward. If you are also doing a kitchen or flooring, we stagger the trades so the house always has one working bathroom and one clean path through it.

Master Bathroom Remodel Claremore, OK FAQs

How long does a master bathroom remodel take?

A finishes-only master bath runs two to three weeks. A full gut with layout changes runs five to eight weeks on site. The spread comes from plumbing and electrical rough-in, inspection waits, and lead times on tile, vanities, and custom glass ordered at the start.

Do you need both a tub and a shower in a master bathroom?

No, as long as another bathroom in the house has a tub. Many of our clients drop the garden tub entirely and use that wall for a larger shower and linen storage. Homes with only one tub total should keep it for resale.

How wide should a double vanity be?

Seventy-two inches is the comfortable minimum for two sinks, with 60 inches workable if the sinks are set toward the ends. Below that, two people bump elbows and there is no usable counter between the bowls. A single sink with long counter often works better than a cramped double.

Can you remodel a master bathroom while living in the house?

Yes. We seal the doorway with a zip wall, run a negative air fan, and protect the path from the driveway to the room. You use another bathroom during the work. The only hard stop is the day water gets shut off for the rough-in.

Are heated floors worth it in an Oklahoma master bath?

Yes if you are already replacing the floor, since the mat goes down with the tile and adds little labor. Electric radiant takes the chill off tile on winter mornings and dries the floor faster. Retrofitting it later means tearing the finished floor out again.

A master bath is the largest room in bathroom remodeling in Claremore, and it coordinates with the rest of our home remodeling services. Budget ranges by scope are in our remodel cost guide, and payment plans run through our financing options.
